Found the Maix Ball, but......?

Si I found a Maix ball and not a Shaler .58
bullet. So what are these Maxi Balls used for.
Why not a regular bullet. They KILL better or
something?

You apply grease between the lands and it's used in a muzzle loader. Gives better tragectory and energy down range.
