Found Some ... Silver * Jewelry * Relics

These finds are from several hunts that I went on over the last few weeks.
Hunted at a few old houses, at an old ball field and along a few sections of older sidewalk.

Strange thing about the 1954 Austrian coin ... I found three identical coins with the same 1954 dates on them - at the same location last year.
All four of the these 1954 coins were found in a 10 ft. around area and all of them were approx. 5" to 6" down.
Pretty weird ...what are the odds of all of these foreign coins having the same date on them ?

The 1958 Silver Washington Quarter is the first silver quarter I've found in a long time - it was approx. 8" down along an old section of sidewalk.

Not all that common ... both the 1935 and 1937 Buffalo Nickels have clear dates on them. And no ... I checked - the 1937 is not a rare Three Leg version.

The 1944 Silver War Nickel's in pretty good condition.

The .925 Sterling Silver Ring is in real nice condition - very heavy for it's size and has a real nice looking Inca Indian design on it - found this ring at a ball field.

Great finds! I would love to find a buffalo that is not all rusty looking. They dont hold up well around here. No one I know has ever dug one that looks like that.
Way to go

Like all Buffalo Nickels - the ones posted in the photo's above - were very corroded when I found them.
These were cleaned with a S.O.S pad and then touched up with ultra fine steel wool.

What steps do you do to clean the nickels? Sorry for the stupid question but honestly I dont know..

dk dogs -

Just rub the Nickel's with a wet S.O.S. - Brillo pad - like the ones you'd clean a frying pan with.
It takes a lot of rubbing to get the crud off and it's a messy job - but it will not pit the coin like using Vinegar & Salt does.
Then just buff the Nickel with a little piece of very fine steel wool.

Also, don't try cleaning Nickel's or clad coins in Electrolysis Bath - the copper core will turn the surfaces of these types of coins orange !
Once the copper has turned the coin orange - you can't clean it off !

Here's a link to "goes4ever"s website - lots of good tips on how to clean your finds here !

Good Luck !
