I live in a pre 1900s farmhouse and since its too cold to do any productive detecting outside I decided to check out the basement which has a dirt floor found numerous rusty nails and other junk but did find a few keepers. First find was some type of old sleigh bell with no 8 marked on it. 2nd find was a barber dime 1907. Then I found an 1865 shiled nickel and a small brass heart with no markings. Ive tried numerous times to upload pics but the file size is too large any ideas to help me out with the pics.

I use a program called Irfanview. I assume you you have the files saved in a folder on your computer. If you open the first one in Irfanview you can click the save icon at the top and then two windows will pop up. One will be where to save but the other will let you set the maximum file size. Set it to 300 and save it where ever you want. Now you can upload that file to this forum.

Im unable to get that program I live in a rural area and have dial-up internet my connection is not allowing me to dl it. I tried to upload the pics from a friends phone but was getting this message (An error occurred in the application. The error was logged to the Phorum event log.) Sorry guys.

If you have any Apple or mobile products, they have an App called "Re-size image". That's what I use and I love it!

Those are in pretty good shape.

Yea they are in good shape except for the backside of the nickel no matter what I do to clean it up I cant seem to get the silver to shine on it seems to be permanently stained a reddish brown color. Does anyone have any info on the little bell I thinks its brass but could also be copper its got a dark green color to it.

Glad you could figure out the upload. I think its awesome you can just go down some stairs and start swinging and come up with finds like that!

It's a Crotal Bell, a nice one..
Congrats...

Nice finds!
The shield Nickel was first minted in 1866. The 1866 & I believe some of the 1867 nickels have rays in between the stars. I don't see the rays on your nickel, however its hard to see in your picture.

Regardless, great score.

Wow thanks for the clarification on the bell I couldn't find any info on it. Its a nice little bell I love it and about the nickel I was able to clean it up a bit better and it's an 1869 shield nickel. When I first found the nickel it was hard to make out the date on it.

You're welcome..
Some very nice finds...
I expect you will find more..
Hit it from every direction you can and switch up your settings and see if you find some signals that may still be hiding..
Good luck...
