Found ring with markings 316L

Found a ring today, very nice looking and heavy, like a wedding band but only has markings 316L and is silver or platinum color or white gold color. Dont know much about putting pictures on am going to have to learn. Have found a lot of gold and other items in the water but this is the first time for this kind of marking. Can anyone shed any light?

I have been a welder for over 40 years. One of the things I weld is 316L. That is a high grade of Stainless Steel.

316 has good antioxidation properties in wet environments that are exposed to oxygen (like sweaty fingers) 304 is good in submerged water environments like pump housings, end of lesson:devil:

Kewl,

BDA:cool:

Hi water hunter dont want to rain on your parade but 316 is stainless as far as i know.terry in oz:detecting:

Thanks. I was afraid that was the case and have found stainless bands in the past but never had those kind of markings -

At least I did get a small 14k today - just wish it had been as large as the 316L
