Found Out I Burnt The Solder Right :hot:Off The Old Ace

I called Garrett today and talked to Mary for the first time. She sounded like a real nice gal. She said my detector was fixed and will be here Monday. They had to solder the connections back on the processor. I guess that Ace is so hot it melted them. :hot: While I was out using the wife's, she called and said mine had just been dropped off. Woo Hoo, I got my baby back. After today, I only need 60 more coins to make my 10K all time coin count before the end of the year.:hot:

The one you got was made to be operating in a cooler climate. If it had of been sent to me in the first place, that solder would never have burnt off.

I don't know I would accept that as a "fix". A loose electrical connection generates heat, which may have been the initial problem to begin with, a loose connection or even a missed solder connection. This usually overheats the surrounding area as well. I don't know squat about the guts of an MD, but worked on furnaces for 30 years, and saw this all the time on circiut boards on them.

Nothing against Garrett, but I'd have them "renew" the warranty on your 250 since they chose not to actually replace the part. Just my opinion....

I'll wrap the Yeller Feller with a cold pak:rofl:

Smitty[/quote]Thanks for the reply Smitty. I really don't know much about the internals. Hey Bill, you have been around detectors and Garrett for, well, a few years. What do you think?:nerd:

What did they actually do to the detector? I would check with Mary before she leaves the 18th to see if it was fixed or patched and if there could be any future side effects from the problem ( such as heat damage to surrounding areas ) that may lead to future malfunctions. The warranty is usually pretty clear ( read it over again ) about what is covered and what they will and will not do. Give Mary a buzz before she leaves on the 18th and check it out with her..They'll treat you right.

THat's it John, they screwed up and sent him the self heating cold climate model. I'd protest - both of you.
