Found odd medal. un able to ID.

I was out metal detecting a few months ago and found this medal nailed to a tree in the woods.
the nail was old and rusty with a square or diamond shaped head. i have cleaned it up quite a bit
looking for any marks or words, but there are none on it to help ID. i believe it is made of brass.
anyone have any clue where it may be from. or what it may be.
Thank you for any help ... H.H.

Try a google search with "palm tree and crossed swords". Its looks to be some type of emblem of Saudi Arabia.

If your search includes images many other examples are shown.

thank you Knarfj, did the search, and found coins with the palm tree and crossed sword. and a few other medals
definitely Saudi Arabia but have yet to be able to find this one without any inscriptions or text.
i believe it is some kind of service medal, but cannot find any US service medals that match.

I would be asking myself why was it nailed to a tree and did it mark something of value. Marks and scars and bent branches on trees were often used to direct to a hidden cache.

I would look for other marks on the tree, other medals on surrounding trees and def scan all the ground surrounding the older trees in the area.

Nice to know I was of some help. :)

Was the tree still alive when you found the medal? If it was, it more than likely had not been there very long as the bark of the tree would have most likely over grown the medal and nail in a few years.

FWIW: The color of your find makes me suspect it's not brass.

Good luck in your quest for more answers.

the tree was not old or very big. medal was approx 6 ft up.
the nail was very rusty to the point of falling apart, and the medal quite dirty and crusty.
likely not there very long, but long enough to rust the nail almost gone.
i will definitely be doing some searching around the area though .
Thank you for the help .... H.H.
