Found my First Indian

Cliff KS

Found my first Indian Head Penny ever on Thanksgiving Day on a short hunt at an old farmhouse site. It is a 1899. The side with the Indian head is in very good condition, the other side is in fair condition. I've never posted any pics on here before. Does anyone have any digital photo tips and photo posting tips they care to offer or have links for? Thanks in advance.

I had hunted this same site in the past with a couple of other detectors, but with 8" and 12" coils with iron disced out and had found a piece of a silver brooch and a brass Kellogg's Cornflakes token (watch fob?), but never any coins. Decided after reading this forum and other forums awhile that my problem may be masking due to all the small bits of iron at these old farm sites, so I decided to to get the small coil and try all metal.

This time I had the X-70 with the 6" DD HF and ran in all metal mode with no discrimination. It came at 30-32. I thought that IH's were suppose to come in at the mid to upper 20's?. It was about 4" deep and the signal was not real strong, but was definitely repeatable. I could not find it in the plug and then saw it off to one side. It had fallen out of the plug and rolled a few inches, so for all I know, it could have been on edge when I detected it.

Congrats on your first IH cent. As I posted in the target ID chart (which can be found in the FAQFAQ section) I've found IH cents ranging from a TID of 24 to 32, depending on the date of the coin and "site" conditions. (angle, depth, adjacent targets, mineralization etc.)

To post pics on here, click on the blue "Upload File" link when you make your post. Each pic must be in gif, jpg, png, jpeg formats, they can be no larger than 420 KB, and you can attach up to 6 pic files to each message. Simply a matter of transferring the pic from your PC to the post. The hard part is making the pics the right size. To do that, you will have to use a photo program. The one I use can be downloaded free online, and is called GIMP. Do a google search and you will find their homesite as well as tips for downloading it.

Again, congrats on your first IH cent. HH Randy

Congratulations! That's a magnificent find. I was talking to a few Canadians last month who lived near the border, one of whom had found one once and it was considered to be an excellent find. Would love to see a picture if you get one up. All the best with your future hunting.

Cheers,

Marco

WTG on your first IH. Even though it was about 6 years ago I still remember my first IH. Good Luck.
