Pleased to say that after 4-months with my E-Trac, I finally found my first gold ring in a local park. Its bent up (I didn't do it),and doesn't look expense. But its a man's 10K gold ring nonetheless and I'm ecstatic. I was using my 6" Excellerator coil with Andy's coins program today. Instead of multi-tone, I decided to try 4-conductive tones for the first time. I read in Andy's book that this can be a good choice when looking to distinguish zinc vs. copper pennies (p 43). The area was very trashy, so I used the "Deep", "Fast" and "High Trash" settings. The ring was about an inch behind a dime and memorial penny, with all three passing underneath my coil simultaneously. I recall I was hitting a dime signal, but I dug a wide enough plug to retrieve all three targets at once and was very surprised to find a ring. The ring's F/C values were 12/22.
Otherwise, It wasn't my most productive day, with lots of trash to deal with and no deep targets. My oldest coin today was a 1941 Jefferson. Here's my tally after 4.5 hours of detecting:
09 Quarters
11 Dimes
02 Nickels
11 Zinc Pennies (part of 2 coin spills)
26 Memorial Pennies
----------------------
# coins - 59
Total - $3.82
Happy hunting!
