I found this 1827 large penny today...I've never found a penny of any kind come out of the ground looking as good as this one so I thought I'd scan it before I tucked it away. They are always cruddied up pretty good so I was amazed at the detail of this and it was only maybe an inch down in a heavily farmed field. It's not perfect but it's good enough for me.

The large cent is my "Goal Coin".The area i live in is plenty old enough (founded 1753) but it seems that the "Barter System" was used alot out here. I have only found alot of real old farm implement pieces that have fallen or broken of the equiptment while in use. I have found no old coins (1964 jefferson nickles have been my oldest coins). My time is coming,I am glad that yours has come.Again,congrats on the large cent.

Nice coin! I still havent found anything in the 1800's yet. Guess I will have to keep looking!
