But WHAT is it ????? Most of the pins or pieces were found at 1700s to early 1800s sites...last grave at the site was dated died 1849 Also found a Spanish pillar dollar...really beat up

definately falls into the "sash buckle" category but being it has a vertical bar, scarf "slide" is possible but it also could be for suspenders (clasp cover). I would date it by construction (bar attachment method) as late 1800s. Cool find, David@Dixie
