on my sisters ranch in southern new mexico where two old trails cross her property. One dates from the 18th century, the other from 1845 to 1884, after the railroad came through, it wasn't used any more. The heavy rains and winds there has eroded lots of new areas to detect.
If this picture takes as scanned, the top row is a piece of a Hardee Hat pin, a rusted key, two gun hooks??, and the piece with a white thing on it is the outer case of a abalone shell, pen knife, but NO knife

sorry guys it was a poor scan. There was many more items I COULD NOT identify and needed some help with.

see if this scan is better, and the lower part of the picture came up, and that is the part I need help on.THANKS out there

The last row, the first item on the left is part of a hunting horn Infantry hat insigina, civil war and earlier. the third item is a j-hook from a US knap sack for ajusting the shoulder straps.
The second row, item two and four Rectangular with three small holes in each end were use to attach shoulder scales on the epulettes(sic?) of US cavalry or dragoon uniforms. They were sewn to the uniform and a metal tab on the shoulder scale was inserted under it, then fastened. The third item is the belt end keeper for a US oval type waist belt used during and before the Civil war. Hope this helps, we find them in Va also. Looks like you have a military camp site, hunt slow careful.

Second row; #1 is a ram rod tension spring. #2 & #4 are belt loop stays. They are found mostly on Knap sacks. The cloth "belt loops" had metal stays sewn inside the oil cloth belt loop. This was to keep the belt loops erect to allow the easy insertion of the adjustment belt. Third row #2 appears to be the bottom view of a powder flask cap. I believe that is the tension spring lever I see. Bottm row: part of an Infantry "hunting horn" insignia has been ID'd; iron key and knapsack "J" hook ID'd but the last "roller" style hook is a new one on me??? Nice finds! David @ Dixie
