found a nice pice of indain pottery chasing a signal that turned to be a cut nail , the pottery has a black crust of carbon on the inside , apparently the indians liked to cook the meal well done. but the out side is light brown probably some more arrowheads to in the grand. this would be considered woodland culture How old ? 1700 to after the glaciers left - sometimes it pays to dig nails

I think that is cool when you dig a signal and find a non matalic item. Many years ago I was in a field. If something went beep, I dug it. I also dug up a nail. When I was pushing the dirt back in the hole, I seen the edge of flint. Pulled it out and had me a very nice small arrowhead. A few times when water hunting, I get a beep and in the scoop with my pull tab is a marble. I done that a few times. You might find some other things there... KEN.. Ind.

You just never know what you might unearth. I've found marbles in the same hole with pull tabs.

I am with you Tab. On several occasions, I found old glass marbles in the same hole as the coins. I once was detecting in the middle of the woods and received a signal so I started digging. Out of the hole came 3 perfectly good sea shells and I am 50 plus miles from the ocean. Down further in the hole was a piece of iron fencing that fooled me. Just never know Gunnar. In your case you found remains of Native American pottery. Get the screen shaker back out and section off a piece of property where you found the fragments and start another archaeological dig.

kool storie Ken, I tell you what i don't like is when a big nasty spider comes up . jim I have to sift i probably missed something again

Yea, great eye finding the pottery! I also found what I believe was a hyde scrapper in the woods when digging a signal. Great going on the bottles a few days back also. How are you liking the modded silver compared to the outlaw you had a while back?

I have found several arrowheads that way.....the nicest one i ever found was in the hole with a silver dime.
