Found in the same hole as Barber dime

GateKeeper

Well-known member
Any idea how old it is?

Just got information on it from another member here. It dates back to the Archaeic period 8000-5000 BC. It basically dates back to the stone age. It is a spear point, and the spear point was in the same hole as the Barber dime.

Probably not a spear point...no notches for hafting to a shaft..more likely a hand held knife type blade. That or it is an unfinished spear point. Flint or chert material..If all edges are knapped or "flaked off" to a sharp edge then hafting to a shaft would be near impossible as the sharp edges at the base would cut through the hafting material. Arrow and spear points are normally ground smooth near the base for hafting. Hard to date without other artifacts from the same site. Could be Archaic period though. Cool find.

I have to agree with you Charlie, looks like a knife to me, from the picture it appears to be sharp on the right side and rounded on the left where it was held in the hand. That is a dandy find Phil and probably worth in the $300 to $400 range.

What was the guy doing with a barber dime back then. Interesting. Just kidding! Very cool find!

Kinda looks like" agate basin" to me gatekeeper 10500-8000 b.p. ( before present ) what part of the country are you in?

Near Chicago

Very nice. Managed to pick up a few points around my house and I see people walking the fields looking for Native American artifacts, but never seen nothing like that. That would make my day and a barber also. Congrats.
