Found at the beach

gabbyhayes

Member
Its made of iron and is about 6 inches long
Does anyone have an idea what this is?
Thanx

It's a blade gaurd off of a hay mower. Find them all the time in field's. It's kind of odd for you to have found it at the beach?

Maybe not that odd...How old would this be?
This was at the beach along a lake where they might have made hay many moons ago, before this was a park.

You are absolutely correct!! Thank You!!
I googled hay mower blade guard and saw a pic of one exactly like this only in better shape of course.
We should be handing out a prize to everyone that guesses the right answer:clapping:

Thanks Again!!

I would imagine that they are still available today. The sickle mower we had when I was a kid had them in the 60's and 70's and I sold them when I worked in a farm supply store in the
80's. There were rotary mowers back then, but the sickle mower was better for steep slopes (like road ditches). New rotary mowers have floating wings, so the tractor is more level. Plus it was a job to replace the broken teeth and guards on the sickle bar.(especially the teeth).
