Found an interesting tag

Gonehunting

New member
2 weeks ago found this tag near my home. Rumor is an Air Force jet crashed in the mid 1960's, just over the hill from where I live. Does anyone know if there is way to find out which jet this come off of, or what type?

I doubt you'd be able to find out the exact aircraft it came off. It's a simple data plate that is attatched to the back side of the component. From the nomenclature of this data plate, I'm sure this was used on a wide variety of military aircraft. Not sure how they tracked serial numbered items back then, but these days, everything that's serially controlled can be tracked to exact tail numbers of aircraft. It is mostly done for historical reasons to track problems and also for crash purposes to know the exact parts that were on the aircraft at the time of incident.

I live in Charlottesville, Virginia and there is a Sperry marine corporation located here.
I think they make opitcal equipment for the military, but not exactly sure.
This business has been here as long as I can remember and goes back well into the early '60s if not before.
This tag may very well have come from a piece of equiment that oringinated at this plant.
I tried to look the phone number up, but it is not listed.
You may have to call information to look up the number.
Good luck in your search,
Felix

thanks guys, I am researching the crash and hope to find out the exact trainer that did crash, then maybe trace this machine(plate) back to the plane..
