Found A Way To Check Gold Jewlery To See If It's Real

Tonight, while watching Youtube videos, there was one video that described how to check your gold to see if it's real gold. Pour vinegar in a clear glass (enough to cover the ring or whatever your testing) and drop the jewelry into it. Let it set for approximately 5 minutes. If the item turns dark grey, it's fake! If it remains bright gold, it's real. So I tested a ring I found several months ago, at the park next door. It came out of the vinegar bright gold! Woo-hoo!

Thanks for the info. I’ll have to give it a try.

Seems to me if it had good gold plate it would also remain shiny like gold since the base metal is encased. I use a gold tester

Oh ... by the way ... I didn't mention that I took my magnet fishing magnet and tried to stick the gold ring onto the magnet. It wouldn't stick to the magnet, which is a #350 magnet! So my conclusion was that this ring, in fact, is the real thing. Food for thought.
