Found a seated dime today-but I scratched it

This was my second seated dime and first found with the E-trac. Its an 1886 with full liberty. My Garrett pro pointer was malfunctioning on me after I opened the hole so I ended up scratching this nice coin.

#@##!!$&*... Well heck of a nice find but that wont be the first time any of us have done it either...when I started detecting in 1986 I thought I was digging up another beer can that turned out to be a barber half. Yah shes wearing a scar from my screwdriver but I still wont give her up.

Now you ll be more than careful!

Very nice find! I haven't got one of those yet. Sorry to hear about the mishap--it happens to all of us sooner or later. I gouged a beautiful 1919-S SLQ on one of my first hunts with a new detector. I still kick myself everytime I look up the current value--although I'm not sure why 'cause I don't plan on giving her up either. Still, it's a good reminder to take your time recovering a find. Thanks for posting.

Very nice, even scratched it is still yours!

Too bad about the scratch. I hate it when I do that too. That seated is in very nice condition otherwise. Congratulations on that find!

Awesome find PA! Thanks for the picture. I'm still lookin' for my first seated. A little more rare here in Nebraska. Found plenty of IH's that qualify datewise.

Super ouch, but rest assured, we've all done it........................................Hawkeye Jim.

We've all scratched coins before! I know it hurts to do it on a seated, but we just have to continue to live and learn, and do our best to recover every item out of the ground as if it were a $10 gold piece!

Congrats on your find!

I try to convince myself that the coin was scratched when it was lost . . . . . at least it softens the pain.

Great coin . . . . . hit that site again!

Don't feel bad I scratched a beautiful 1918-D standing liberty quarter one time. I was using a machine at the time that bunched all silver coins and copper together, That is what I like about the E-trac is it has the ability not only to separate copper from silver coin's,But also the denomination. Now if I get a big silver read out I know to make the hole a little bit wider to lesson the odds of scratching it. Besides like the others said it is still a pretty coin. I also found out the people who complain the most about it are just jealous!
