Found a nice little penknife with the Golden Sabre II

Yesterday morning the little woman said I only had two hours to detect. I wanted a break from the Fishers so I grabbed the Golden Sabre II / Cleansweep combo and my new Nixon watch I found the week before last to keep track of the time and went woodchipping at a local school playground. This playground used to give up a lot of gold jewelry but the dynamics have changed and its mostly just good for clad and the occasional trinket now.

And that was what I found. Clad and this nice trinket of a penknife.

A very nice, heavy, sturdy penknife. One side is engraved with Alaska and a bear that were painted in brown. But the brown was flaking so I went ahead and removed the rest of it.

Neat find. I like finding knives.

Its a sharp little bugger though. I cut myself on it right away after I got it home and was doing show and tell with the wife :stretcher:

I put a quarter in the picture for size. The camera has it more yellow than it actually is. Its more of a light cream color.

When a guy finds a working knife, thats something special...same with a lighter...all a guy needs is a knife and fire to make it on this Planet..very great find...makes a guy feel at peace and that everything is gonna be OK..

That looks like a very nice little knife. Just a nice size too. What brand is it? KEN

Good deal Mike. At least you found something different than all clad.
Good looking little knife. Maybe you will dig up some gold next time.

The only problem is if you look real close at the base of the blade in the photo it says China on it. At first I thought it looked like a case knife and that would have been an awesome find!

Oh yeah, I see it now that you pointed it out. Looked like a Case knife to me.
Still something you don't find every day hunting clad. Always like to find
something different. Gold jewelry is my favorite something different.

Years ago everyone carried a knife and it was considered a necessary tool to have in your pocket, but today if they find one on you they consider it a weapon. Even a tiny pen knife. Heck, even kindergarten kids gets suspended for playing like their finger is a play gun. Sad

I find lots of old rusty pocket knives. Just found one yesterday. I should start keeping them ,Just dont want more junk lying around.

I also carry two knives everyday. Dont go metal detecting without a Swiss Army Knife with a saw blade. I hunt the woods a lot and there are always roots to saw through.

Hi Gene,
Glad to see you are still around.

I don't mind clad. Clad is a big help in site reading and keeps me in batteries. And there is always hope that next piece of foil or nickel or tab is going to be something shining and gold!

But I do like the good trinkets almost (not really but....) as most as I like finding silver and gold.

Cool find. I found a small knife a few yrs ago that had one of the 2 blades snapped off. Oh well.

Yes....China.....hard to find stuff that doesn't say China on it....:sadwalk:

Doesn't have a brand name, Ken.

There is some branding on the blade tang. I'll have to get the loope and see what it says.

Yes Mike, still around and still chasing gold jewelry.
You're right about site reading. Coins and trash you dig
can tell a lot about the area you are hunting.
Still, gold jewelry is my main target and has been for a long time.
Good hunting to you Mike ! Gene
