It is a one piece pewter button with the shank undamaged. It has an eagle facing right, with 11th b/w the talons, above the eagle it reads "regiment of infantry." I went back to the same spot as before and braved the sweet sounding nails for a few hours. I also managed part of a thin placard. I can make out a drum and canon wheels and underneathe it reads REG. It is about 4" wide. Would have been cool to find it intact. I thought I had cut it with my digger, but when I rechecked the hole it was clean. I also found a cool little square brass buckle. I was impressed with the DFX's depth in the tough soil, but it sure loves nails Is there a detector out there that hates nails and still gets similar depth? Have a good one guys!
