Didn't think I was going to have any thing work right today. There was a light rain when I went to my favorite park this morning. About 15 min after I got there, the bottom fell out. I drove to another park and the rain slowed down so I started again. Here it come again. Started for home and the rain slacked up a little so I decided to try this park I never had any luck at. But now I got a Tesoro. It was raining as I drove through the park and I was wondering if there could be an old home site up in those woods some where. I noticed a trail heading into the woods and up a hill. I went up there and found bulb plants and shrubs. There were rocks piled in strait lines. Then I found a pile of rocks and beat around and found a grave stone. Couldn't read much but it said " DIED 1846 ". This is in a city park mind you.

Went got my Cibola and went about 50' from the grave and the third hit I got was a musket ball:)

Is this a fluke? I thought. I set my desc to just below nickles to find out. About 4 or 5 pulltabs later I got another one. By this time it's raining pretty good, big drops coming out of the trees. The mosquitoes got so bad I was slapping several at a time as they squirted blood all over my legs. Yes I wore shorts!

In about 30 min I got 4 musket balls. No modern bullets.......... Couldn't take it any more.

The four on the left are the ones I found today. The musket ball and mini ball on the right were found a month ago, 5 miles away along with over 100 more modern rounds of ammunition
.
The mini ball is larger than 50cal. The musket ball over it is about 45cal. The four on the left I found today appear to be 50cal.

Glad I didn't let the rain stop me because I enjoy finding musket balls. And no telling what is waiting for me up in those woods.

Went back out there this morning. Hunted 2 or 3 hours until my battery ran down. And I'm not talking about my metal detector battery.

Found a flint chip and a brass thing. What do you think it is?

Went back out to the site Today. I had a feeling that the Direction from where I found the safe dial to the site of the blast was East. I started from safe dial spot and started working my way East in a zigzag pattern. Kept finding musket balls. I think I found 41 musket balls so far. I continued in that pattern until I was approx 230' down hill from where I found the dial. Between those two spots all I found was musket balls, shot gun cartridges, two arrows and an occasional trash item.

Then I started hitting iron targets all over the place. Most Items were in close proximity. After digging the items at the blast site, I started circling in an expanding pattern. The small, ripped part of the dial was 40' west. The pliers and beer can opener were 70' south. The name plate was about 50' west. The other larger dial part was about 90' west and the part of the dial with numbers on it was approx 230' west.

So far I haven't found the gold, but I'm still trying.

Mason jar lids, spoon, hatchet blade and file were on the north side of blast area

Three dial and tumbler pieces blown off the safe. I've only cleaned one of these.

Name plate in center of circle says " FAIR SANS DIRE ". It's brass with red porcelain inlay. It has an image of what looks like a cactus and an image similar to a boy scout badge.

I think this is a " FAIR SANS DIRE " safe. Model# 1907M
It has a Lot# also.

gets more and more interesting as you go along. Pretty fasinating so far. How long ago was the safe blown do you think?

I thought this piece of the tumbler was mostly brass. After I cleaned it up some, I realized that attached to it is a 2.75" diameter by at least 1" thick plug of iron that was blown out of the safe door. The door was probably at least 1" thick iron.

Field Artillery Regiment insignia.

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 161st Field Artillery Regiment on 16 May 1928.

If this had any thing to do with what happened at that spot then the event would have taken place after 1930.

There is a high likelihood that this insignia had something to do with this event because there is hardly any thing out there but musket balls. Every thing els is concentrated in this one spot except for the pieces of tumbler which seem to have been blown in a west direction and the insignia which was only 30' or so to the west with a few pieces of cast iron like those concentrated in that one spot. and past that were the three tumbler parts. The depth of the insignia was similar to the depths of all the other stuff. The exception is that a some things may have been blown into the ground. I had to go deep to get a few of these items.

I have a lot of un answered questions about this event and just exactly what some of these items are. I have a strange corrugated vile that is about 4" long and about three/eights of an inch in diameter. My imagination runs wild when wondering what was in that vile. I need to clean it and see if the whatzit forum can identify it. I have used my imagination and reasoning to make a plausible story out of this event. I'm sure I am wrong about several issues but I'm just trying to bring this event to light. I have already received help from the forums. I am not through with my little adventure by a long shot.

One of the nice things about this kind of stuff is that I don't have to be professional in what I'm doing. I can be wrong and there are no severe consequences as there were in my professional surveying career.

This is a great hobby and I'm grateful I have the opportunity to participate
