Found a good one this past weekend...

...Took the Dual Field PI for a late afternoon spin on Friday. First pass down the lane I get a faint but repeatable signal (I almost didn't dig it). Dug my first class ring. This thing was DEEP! Tracked down the owner. The poor kid lost it back in June right after graduation. Needless to say he was ecstatic. This was the first time in over 20 years metal detecting that I found a class ring and was able to return it.

Maybe next time I can find one for ME to keep!

How deep do you think the target was? Very curious to know how hard the DF is hitting for you.

Cheers Mate,

Well, it was one of those deals where you're right at the water's edge and as soon as you take a scoop out the hole starts to fill back in. About three scoops full. I know it was really deep by the characteristics of the signal and the fact that I have my volume on max and the sensitivity running around 3/4 full. I almost didn't dig it because it kinda sounded like a hair pin or small iron (and I mean small). They have a tendency to give off a weak response. Most targets (with average depth) give off a solid, no-doubt-about-it signal.

for the Dual Head PI, and it states the machine needs a relatively fast swing speed to work properly. It recommends 3-5 feet of arc/second. So can you get that sort of swing speed with the coil in water with a relatively strong current or only on wet sand? Thanks.

If you research you will probably find that they say that in all of the manuals. I have found that the Dual Field PI is as effective whether swinging it fast or slow. One thing I like is that it gives me that "on-the-fringe" signal when I'm walking at a moderate pace in the wet sand and walk past a target. So far I have found that you can swing it at just about at any pace you like.

as I sometimes walk a little too fast with my Excal and Infinium so the Dual Field would be better on the wet sand. Just wanted to be sure it would still work effectively at a slow rate in the water.

I found two sets of keys deep in the water on two different days. I hung them on the Entrance sign to Orchard Beach in plain view near basketball courts. Yesterday the set for Jeep disappeared. Hopefully its owner recognized and took it! I am impationatelly waiting for the owner of the second set to regain it too. It must be easily recogniseable even from distance because of a bright key chain attached to it with some radio station name/frequency.

I can imagine how upset were people having lost their keys while swimming! I am trying to make their day too.
