Found a good button this morning!

Dirt Poor

New member
I went back to a farm where I have been digging CW relics for several years, but this was the first trip with the X-70. I have hunted all the fields to death, and I have been reluctant to hunt the fenced-in yard(a 3-4 acre yard). I talked to the owner this morning, and they said to dig all I wanted in the yard, so I felt like a kid again. Trash EVERYWHERE! I did manage to find this coat-sized Yankee Rifleman's button, but didn't see the "R" until I got home and cleaned it up. I've found alot of CW buttons over the last 30 years, but this is my first R button. I also found a Spencer casing, a brass door lock, and some other scrap stuff. This button was in rich, black dirt, so that saved alot of the guild, but the back wasn't guilded, I don't think. Can't make out the backmark. I applied some Linseed Oil to the button after washing it. Couldn't find my tung oil. I guess Linseed oil is safe?? It was kind of hard to isolate targets with the stock coil, but I have a 6" DD coil that I'm going back with. I hope that will snipe some more goodies. Rain ran me away around lunchtime today.

Man, that's what it's all about!!! I have yet to find one of those out here in Missouri. Tell ya, I use mineral oil on my buttons to give em' a shine. Great find!! I would be all over that yard like a "Rat On A Cheeto"

Thanks! I wish it hadn't started raining on me, because I'm sure that I would have found a few more goodies. I'm going to wait a few days before going back. Don't want to wear out my welcome. But I can't wait to hit it again!!

cool finds, sure ought to be some old coins there too, good luck
Thanks. I have found a few old coins there. Large cent, Seated Liberty Dime, and a half-dime. The Large cent was rough.

Nice button . I would do a happy dance for days if I found that.

Thanks! I didn't realize that it was an "R" button until I got home and cleaned it. Did the dance then....
