Hey all. Found an old chinese coin dating to the mid 1700's. Live in eastern S.Dak.....opinions on if this thing is real. Found in the yarf of my 1910 home. Thanks!!

Why would you think it's not real? It has some pitting on it - both are cool finds, congratulations

Man thats a cool find? I wonder if it came from chinese miners? a gold rush or something?

Those Chinese coins show up everywhere but ive never seen anyone post more than one...my understanding is there was some sort of flower pot or pottery or something of that nature that was imported in the early 1900s that had a coin attached to to it .. ive only ever found one myself.. cool find.

Seems awfully old. The city Im from was settled in 1880's with no chinese presence that I have heard of. This was the last thing I thought I would find...weird!

Deputy1m - they didn't have to live there to lose a coin or two. They could have been passing through.
Get out there and find some more cool stuff. You are in a good area for oldies, good luck

I grew up in Montevideo, MN. Found a few there as a kid. And have found others all over the midwest. Not sure why they are so common.

Ya its real. You will come across those quite often in the ol' ghost towns, old railroad towns out west. There was quite a Chinese presence back in the gold mining and Railroad building days.

I jusy thought maybe chinese restaurants gave them out as souvenirs...anyhow its pretty sweet. Im sure its the oldest coin I will ever find. Thanks guys!!

Very likely it's real. I have also found a couple here in North Carolina.

But that Indian head is the better find to me. What a great thing having your own yard produce such finds!

I found one too,in a school yard dating back to 1800's, that had to have been hit before as it was the only thing I found, including no modern clad other than a few zinc pennies. This was in the North East US.

Makes you wonder.

I just found one today at a house that was built in 1817 I live in N.C

What was the year(s)??
I dont understand the question?
i think what he may be asking is what dynasty era is it from? The characters on the coin can be matched to the dynasty that was in power at the time of minting..

I live in south Texas and I used to have a deer lease in Goliad county.I was told by owners that people used to travel to San Antonio right through this lease, plus Santa Anna brought his Mexicans troops towards the ALAMO.The lease had a creek running through it,it appears people had been using a small area for a cemetery.Found one grave of a woman who had died in 1865 ,the grave was about to go over the side of the creek:yikes:All that remained was a tiny rod-iron fence and head stone. All around this area were rock markings in a circle which probably were other graves.Believe in earlier days the creek must have been 75---100 yards smaller.
The banks of the creek were at least 15 ft high ,the owner found what appeared to be a solid brass ''BUDA" imbedded in the bank.So according to people Chinese came this way also in the 1800's.---james

Sorry guys...I was wondering about the dynasty era. I googled "how to date chinese coins" and figured mine out.

Hey all!! Found another chinese coin in my yard!!! It was about 25 feet away from the first one. Calgarycoin.com says it is 1795-1820. Sweet! Also found a toy soldier. No markings on him but he has gaiters and a WW1 style helmet.
