Found a 2 bit piece today relic hunting I think

Took a relic hunt today for about 2 hours. I parked my truck in the middle of the field by the river. I dug 2 buttons, 1 severely corroded memorial cent. I kept coming back to the truck every 20 minutes or so to get a swig of my soda coming back from a slightly different angle every time while sweeping. The last trip back I got a screaming 12-45 signal with display showing 9 inches. It was only a 2 way hit. Turned out I believe after internet research to be a 1/4 of an 8 reale King Charles IV milled bust or 2 bits. I'm not much of a coin expert. So if I'm wrong please correct me.

Great find. I would have never found that I carry a bottle of soda on my belt

Here's a link with a pic down on the right. The coin part has the number IIII on it which stands for IV.

It looks like a cut Bolivian Potosi 8 Reales late 1700 to early 1800's. I don't know who the guy is though but I bet you could google it. Carolus IIII ?

Yeah, and another gent found a real small spanish coin with XLT machine about 75 yards away 3 years ago, it was only 2-3 inches deep. This field is about 400 yards from the Crossing of the Cumberland river here in middle Tn. There is info on the internet about it. It was the only river crossing for miles where the water was shallow enough to cross with horses and wagons in the summer/early fall. A fort was built nearby (Fort Blount) to protect the settlers from Indian attacks. This fort area was excavated back in 1993 by a nearby university. When they were finished digging with a backhoe and sifting the dirt through screens, they covered the area with small copper washers. That's a shame. My friend owns 193 acres in this area plus there is around 100 acres of government land that joins it. Lots of field area plus the woods in the winter are clean enough to do some hunting.

Awesome Find Congrats:twodetecting::minelab::thumbup:

Actually it was it at around 8 inches according to my garret pinpointer length. I suspect it was on edge since it was a 2 way hit only. I double checked the hole and surrounding area and didn't notice any iron. I was running in 27 manual sensivity deep off fast off, gain at 30 ferrous coin separation, long tone.

very very nice indeed,,,,,

Awesome recovery. Sad to hear the University felt compelled to scatter the ground with small copper washers. But glad you managed to pull this one out. Just think of the history that has transpired since it was minted. Congrats. HH Randy

Wow - nice piece of history - plus the context of the site makes it all the sweeter!
