Hunted some sidewalk strips and the soil was the worst I have ever hunted in I believe.Suggested sensitivity ran from 1 to a high of 10 and auto +3 ranged from 6 to18 . Very noisy as well with the stock coil. I believe the reason for the 3 silver quarters and only one dime is because I could not hit a dime at the 6" range the quarters were found at. The area had been hunted recently as their was very little shallow clad but they missed the 6" quarters
I kinda like the 1962 city bicycle plate/license as well once I got it hammered out flat.

You have quite a few nice goodies in the bunch Ray.....:clapping: That bicycle plate brings back memories

Nice recoveries Ray. With soil conditions as you explained, no wonder they were still hiding down there. Thank goodness you had the small coil to help pull them out. Congrats on the finds. HH Randy

Great job rescuing those quarters from their iron prison Ray - that's 3 BQ's in a week - fantastic!

Nice massage cream tin. "For use on aching muscles after a long day of dirt fishing."

Ray, often wanted to ask soem of the sidewalk hunters, how it works. Wonder if the strips are property of the homeowner and if not do they act as if they are? Have you ever been confronted by property owners staking calim and being pissed? I dont live in a town that has sidewalk strips, but there is one close. Not real wide, maybe 6ft. I have seen some sidewalk strips in the midwest that are very wide and wonder if the wide ones help kinda make them isolated from the property owners.
Please comment on your thoughts, as I have been eyeing up those close strips , but not fully sure.
Thanks,
Mike

Most town I have checked with say the strip between sidewalk and street belongs to city. I have had a few jerks confront me and I just tell them it is city property but will move on if it bothers them.I have talked too the local police on a few occasions and let them know what I would be doing so that they would be better informed on how to respond in case a home owner called them.

I am extra careful with my recoveries even if the grass strip looks very rough and I never hunt the strips unless it is winter or the soil is wet so as not to make brown spots.

I also am more selective with the targets I recover so as to keep digging to a minimum.I never spend more than a minute recovering a target either so as to keep a lower profile.I often make just one wide sweeping pass and move at a good pace.I covered both sides of the street for over 5 blocks in the 2 hours mentioned. It seems people are less nervous if you don't camp out in front of their houses.

I do my best to not escalate a confrontation with anyone and just apologise for bothering folks if they get nasty.I have swallowed my pride a couple of times and it is better in the long run even though I was well within my rights and had been OK-ed by the local police.

I think it helps that I am a late 40s clean cut guy and only 5-6 and 145 pounds and do not look very menacing/dangerous at all :)

Thanks Ray for the lowdown... I'll send you half of my finds ( pull tabs) HEHE! Serously, I do appreciate the quick response and tips. I supposed I will find a PD and talk to them for clearance. Hopefully they are not a resident on that block or another detectorist. Thanks Again!
