forum question

To para phrase,

Class room? We got no class room. We don't need no stinking class room!

Do we?

This is a close to a Spanish theme as I can think of.

I may regret it later.

Seems this forum is about learning. Mean time, may I should check out the other sweat hogs in their class rooms. Any girls?

LOL

Because Tesoro makes machines that are easy to use. You don't need a PHD to have fun with them.

Tesoro users know where to go - and don't get scattered all over the place........
One place & get it all........

I don't know. But I like the pace here and a great bunch of guys to help out.

Besides I don't have much problem with the computerized menus on my Silver's display:lol:

Classroom?
We don't need no stinking classroom!

I am sure if there was a class room here you guys would all be out in back in the out house looking at the Sears catalog. Here is a chick I found lingering around one of the class room forms. Z

I don't know if that was nice, either, but I didn't write the script...

Actually, I DO have tesoro questions...

I was always concerned about the GB on my Pantera.
With no positive stop, I was always concerned that it may not be working at it's best.
Still don't really understand, but we do have good soil here in my part of CA.

I have three Tesoro machines, and after using them for years, find that I trust them.
Both to find whatever might be there, and to be superior to my own error factor.

After all, if I'm detecting at the beach, or perhaps at a lake, during summer months,:yikes:
Well, I frequently get distracted... and my strokes might lose their rythmn and get erratic.:surprised:
But the machine always stays the same and always performs.;)

After over 15yrs of use my favorite sabre just didn't turn on...
But I've been having so much fun with the others it has just sat in the closet collecting dust.
A few years ago I packed it to mail in for repair... STILL haven't mailed it off!

I've bought an underwater Fisher since then, and it's ok,
and I bought the little yellow fellow, which is great for the money,
but they just don't seem to be as "personable" as my Tesoro machines.

I usually hunt parks, schools, and playgrounds, so it would be unwise to dig deep holes.
A nickel almost jumps out of the ground for my sabre and a dime cannot hide, anywhere.
I've dug Mercs from 10".
My Au hoard is small, but blame for that is the PLACES I hunt.
All have been small ladies rings, so I know the machine would NOT miss a big one.

Although I am learning to appreciate our little yellow fellow, I'm considering purchase of a Cortes,
for the benefit of the additional info provided by the sum function.
I think it might help when I get an opportunity to hunt in people's yards.
(Best to know all you can before digging a hole in front of an owner!)

I'm concerned I may begin to rely upon a display, as opposed to the nuances of the tone from my sabre.
Maybe I should go with a Tejon???

What I DON'T need is maximum depth known to man...
Let someone else dig 'til they hear chinese voices!

New here... with a few notable exceptions elsewhere, the Tesoro Forum sure is nicer to read than the others!

Hi Rich
I only use TID machines. I hunt using sound. When it hits I look at the screen. It helps me to see what it, is seeing, that I am hearing. (WOW) Like you, I like the other info that it gives also. I don't see the screen most of the time. I am interested in the environment around me more than that screen. I have a DeLeon and an XLT. I choose the DeLeon over the Cortes because bigger numbers. Bigger is better when you get older. I also don't care to dig 2' or more down. Let George do it. I just have a lot of fun out there. Lots of people are surprised at what I find because I do goof around a lot. It is more of a meditation time for me to be out there detecting. I really don't care what others are finding better than me. I am glad for them and happy for me. Oh, I hunt beaches and started to hunt tot lots recently. Thanks for reading.. Z
if you need a class rooom for a silver umax somtins wrong
THAT IS FUNNY...GOOD SHOT.

Ha! I'm STILL takin' hits on that one...

Over the years I've gone out to metal detect for many reasons.

Started on my mining claims with a borrowed fisher lunchbox and found it unsuitable for that location.
So I did a bit of relic hunting and did ok...
Then, I took it coin shooting and dug far too much for entertainment. Ha!

So I bought my first Tesoro and did quite well. So I bought #2 with ground balance which was also an improvement in some places.

Never found much good fortune with purchase of a 1280x. Too heavy for dry sand and too much falsing in the splashy waves.
Hope to take it underwater soon when I get a hookah compressor rigged. fresh & salt

Two's good and 3's even better so I bought another Tesoro... I like 'em.
Lightweight and effective. They just seem to be a trustworthy machine, and instill confidence.

Yet, I bought a little yeller feller when they hit the scene, in hopes my wife would get interested.
...more so than when I bring her rings...
Hasn't happened. Too bad, she's a lucky person.

And we ALL know it's far better to be lucky, than know what you are doing.

Well, it seems the little yeller feller has taken MDing by storm, so I've been using it more often,
even though I don't care for it's tone ID as well as my Tesoros, and find that a target ID screen
is NOT really a valuable tool as one might hope for. Canslaw & tabs ARE Au, or vice versa, until dug.
(I hope to purchase a Cortes to determine how effective the Sum function is...)

Point being, changing between machines, my technique is inconsistent.
And, reason for that day's search may vary.

Most the time I do it for basic entertainment. It's good to be out and about God's green earth!
Other times, it's a great relief from hi-stress work I've done.
These days, work is very slow, and with Au at $820 it might be worth an attempt at the water for profit.

It does seems to me that the beach & in the water is opportunity where physics and logic meet.

The entire forum is a classroom for me, and I read through it diligently... too much. I should be outside!

Perhaps a classroom is not necessary for such functional machines as the Tesoros. It would be difficult for me to
describe the subtle differences I hear in the tone of different targets so I could relate them to someone else.

I feel a quality target within capabilities of the Tesoro always seems to be consistent and repeatable.
Pinpointing? Even so little as coil bouncing will frequently do so for me, and with a Tesoro, the target IS in the center of the coil.

Rarely will I use the coil on edge.

With stock concentric coils, in a large area, I use a brisk swing, skimming clipped grass as near 180* as I can and I never get to even half-walking speed in forward progress... baby steps.
I can get indistinct reports off the side of my coils, which will lead me to direct further attention to that suspect to determine if it is repeatable.

Using my CS 3x18 coil, I can almost get to walking speed, and sweep is perhaps 120* in an open field.

I feel the little yeller feller with 6x9 coil is best used with a slower sweep than my Tesoros.

I usually operate in discriminate mode at 1 1/2, sensitivity no less than 7 or 8.
When using the notch machine I set it to reject with the first tab found.
I begin each hunt by tossing a nickel and verifying the machine.
Occasionally I check my machines in sand with a small ladies yellow metal ring, always! tied on a bit of fishing line.
Recently I've been going to an AM search with spot check in disc mode of targets.

At sporting fields I focus upon what I perceive to be high activity areas, and spectator areas at the perimeter, where shade is during our CA summer months. Rarely, I determine to clear a field, and proceed with a complete modified grid method, described elsewhere.

90% of my sites are contemporary, with recent drops. Targets range to 4", with the some at 6" and rarely at 8".
Even though relatively shallow, perhaps 20% of my targets are discolored from time in mineralization, which would lead me to believe they have been missed by others.

My Tesoros have found silver dimes at 10" and large targets deeper. Dry sand beach targets range to at least 10-12".

My machines are better than I, and I feel a person would most likely be better served by consistently using one quality machine of good reputation, on a frequent basis to achieve the highest level of familiarity, and therefore, the best results.

Persistence is a key factor, yet it can never trump blind luck!
Some have outhouse luck, others, the Midas touch.
A quality tool and persistence may increase your odds of becoming among the lucky.

A classroom may not be necessary for a quality machine such as the Tesoro,
but tips and success stories are certainly inspirational.

Inspiration can lead others to be darn near invincible!

Like your post...........

I like your logic also. I have Tesoros that use uMax circuitry. It's nice to have interchangeable coils. It's adds versatility to all your machines for the price of supplying one machine with the same choice of coils. I also like to hunt with them.

I have found that I can understand the language of these machines. I am curious about other types of machines but I don't have an interest in using any of them.

I keep learning and have got in a groove that is working for me. That's where it's at, as far as I'm concerned.

I was very concerned about depth until I started using Tesoros. I discovered that they were deep enough for me and that's not my concern any more.

My thoughts on classes for Tesoro user's are the same as classes for field activities in general. Maybe be this will explain:

I took my test for a professional land surveyor's license years ago. When I did, there were mostly college students taking the test. A few of us were taking the test on a basis of the " right kind " of field experience.

Sixty percent of the people who took that test flunked it. All but one of the people who flunked were college students. And no, it wasn't me. I knew I passed it.

You can not take the test without a four year degree now. Go figure???

Great post RMPTR, hope to hear more of your thoughts,
