hi i have a bounty hunter "fortune hunter" that i got at big 5 sporting goods a couple years ago. it doesnt show up on the normal list of bounty hunter models, and was wondering if anybody could confirm if it was close to similarity to the lonestar model. i tried the search utility but no results came up. does anybody have one of these? was hoping to find out if it was any good. so far i havent had much luck; found 2 stinkin lincolns and some other worthless junk. of course i am a noob, so i know my luck will improve the more i use it. thx.
Hey! Sorry for the crickets but I just dont have an answer for you. As with any detector you need to put your time in keeping that coil moving. Relax and have fun. Hit some playgrounds and schoolyards. Good luck and HH. Matt
thx for a reply. i think it must be similar to a lonestar. my plan is to order a fisher f4 someday soon but until then i will make the best of this fortune hunter. if any readers use a fortune hunter, i would love to hear some news or advice on this machine. thx and hh
My dad's 1st detector was a fortune hunter. We bought him it for Christmas a year ago. He still owns it as a back up detector. He ended up finding over $400 in change with it. I don't know what Bounty Hunter it may be comparable to if any, but if you post a direct message to Dave J. on this forum. He can tell you almost anything you need to know about Bounty Hunters. He would have an answer for you. My dad learned his machine well, bought the 4" coil for it and could clean up an area with it. Especially tot lots and parks. You will not get alot of depth with it, but it will get you some goodies. If you work at it and learn your machine, you will have a load of fun and get excited about the hobby. I started a year and a half ago and experienced the same kind of success as you are now. It is the thrill of what might be under my coil that keeps me coming back. Look into buying a pinpointer if you have the money. I have been really impressed with vibraprobe 580 from Treasure products. You can view this product at Kelly Co Metal detectors and other pinpointers. The 4" coil and good pin pointer will make it easier to find your targets and give you more success. Good Luck and HH.
thanks for the feedback everybody. i did some internet searching last nite and this morning, and also found that the fortune hunter is basically a lonestar.
I just got one, the manuals are available on line and it seems to have a lot of good features.
Looking forward to use very soon.
If you look at the comparison charts for BH , that version is really good.
Initial tests were that it does work well, so far down to 4 to 5 inches.
Still, just learning, new to the hobby.
Best of luck.
You can also read up on the Quickdraw II, which the same except it has a depth readout. The Radio Shack Discovery 2000 is the same as a Lonestar as well. So there should be a ton of info out there.
