Fort Worth 12 1/2 Cent Token...

Howdy--

I was driving around in the older part of town today looking for a vacant lot to hunt. I've detected this town for 30 years and it's a treat to hunt a site where I don't see my footprints haha. I found a lot that was mostly overgrown with weeds but there were a few clear spots. What the heck - at least it's new ground. I dug a few wheat cents, the oldest a 1927. Then I dug a first for me: a Good For 12 1/2 Cents In Trade , Oscar's 705 Main St. Fort Worth Texas. It should be fun researching this token. Best of luck and...

Thanks bob.oz. I have learned that it is a saloon token made between 1901 & 1905. The proprietors of the establishment were: Oscar M. Lenglet & John Conway. Best of luck and...

I love the history on that token. Very cool find.

Thanks miffdan. I agree. I would rather dig an unusual item like this than a Walking Liberty Half!

I've been thinking about using electrolysis to remove some of the corrosion. Does anyone have any experience with similarly corroded brass items? I usually just use a soapy water rinse and a soft tooth brush. Thanks! Best of luck and...

I have never used electrolysis on brass tokens. but I have put them in a tumbler with aquarium gravel. That works well. They turn out real nice. Great token by the way!!

Nice token... Nice find!

I'm right there with you on that. It's gotten to where coins are kind of a disappointment in the ghost towns - I'd much rather find something with more historical significance. Of course, there are still many coins on my bucket list that I'd love to find.

Thanks undrpar. I agree - the out of the ordinary finds like old tokens, watch fobs etc. are the finds that can really make the day! Best of luck and...

Howdy Phillip_in_NM.

It sounds like we are in the same boat - still hunting for that elusive Gold Coin? A few years ago, a buddy of mine had a friend that had dug several $2 1/2 Indians and $5 Indians at Fort Cody near Deming N.M. I guess that he got them all because I came up empty in that department hahah. Best of luck in filling your bucket and...
