Of course THEY won't get around to finding much but they can remain the dictators of digging. If these people would just try working with, and giving credit where due, the MD'ing community they'd find a great resource not competition.

Well it seems that this is/was already a) federal property (a military base) , and b) already an obvious historically sensitive spot at that. So to be honest, there probably didn't need to be any particular new rule imposed, as it was probably already covered under ARPA, for instance. And same for the battle-field looter alluded to at the end of the clip: I mean, yeah, night-sneaking historic monuments, what did he expect?

This story would have no impact on city and county level things. Because sure, if you ask enough federal archies (heck, they even had an office right there on base, you can see in the video), of COURSE they're going to make a stink, talk dire things, etc.... What did you expect an archie to say for the camera, when you ask him or her: "do you allow detectors here?" or "does detecting hurt anything?"

Actually I've known a few military personnel who have hunted on their bases. It's up to the commander usually.

I've hunted military bases too, and .... unless they were an obvious historic monument, wasn't paid any mind. Yup, right there on federal properties, even waved "hi" to passing MP's etc.... But we're talking WWII-ish type bases, that are open to pass-through traffic, etc.... not sacred monuments.

I suppose if I'd stopped those same MP's (who didn't care) and asked enough questions for them to pass on to enough archies in Washington, sure, someone might probably have said "no".
