Fors CoRe depth readout issues

I just tried my CoRe for the first time today. General impressions are favorable but one thing does not seem to be working and that is the depth readout when pin pointing. I dug several pennies which were in the 3-4 inch range and the CoRe constantly gave me 20-29 cm of depth on the display. Is this a known issue ? The only time I could rely on depth readouts is when the detector showed depths of below 20cm. Then I knew that the target was either on the surface or at 1-2 inches. This doesn't happen once in a while, target depth readout is never even close.

I don't want to get into extensive detector comparisons here but I can confidently say that my F19 is super accurate on depth of coin sized targets whether they are on the surface or up to 8-9 inches deep.

The CoRe is calibrated for the euro, which is about an inch in diameter, at least that is my understanding. So coins smaller than an inch are going to read out as deeper than they really are.

I understand that. It can't be off by that much though even if I'm not digging Euros. When I say it's off, it's not even close no matter what the target is.

Typically on the CoRe that I have on pennies,nickels, dimes and quarters a 10-19cm means a surface target (surface to about 1 inch). 20-29cm means 2-3.5 inches below surface and 30-39cm means 4 inches and deeper.

It is. Mine is the same way. Adapt and persevere....

On the upside, if the depth reading indicates about 12-19cm without overloading, I can use the pin pointer to find the target before I even dig and it will be just under the thatch crust or about 1 inch below that. Saves me from digging a large plug in the hopes of not missing the target.

Appart from that, it's not useful. At least not on the CoRe.

A final update on this as I've been using the CoRe and getting acquainted with the audio and visual language. Contrary to what I wrote in my last post. The depth readout CAN be useful even though the centimeter readout is all wrong. I disregard the centimeter unit of measurement completely but use the first number as a reference and the second as a mere decimal point and pretend that the readout is in inches. It's usually quite precise that way and I've verified it in the field on several occasions. In this example, if 1 is the first number, the target is approx just under the surface to 1 inch (recent drop). If the first number is 2, it's close or equal to 2 inches, etc. The number that follows just indicates how close it is to the next depth level (28 would indicate very close to 3 inches). The only downside to this is that my CoRe has never indicated anything above 38cm so the depth accuracy ends at about 4 inches. 38cm could indicate that the target is 4 inches or deeper. This of course is for coin sized targets only.
