Forgot to charge the Excal last night - dumb, dumb, dumb

My hunt last night lasted ten minutes and came in with 26 cents. Tonight I was fully charged and the hunt was 90 minutes in the surfline. It's gotten really quiet at my beach lately as I have hunted and rehunted this beach because it is easy to hunt it after work. After an hour of silence punctuated by light aluminium targets, which I dig just to get rid of them, I decided to hunt closer in to shore (knee to shin deep). SCORE!!! hit 2 quarters in a single scoop, followed by a dime, followed by a solid platinum band:yikes:, all within 20 sq. ft. of each other. (just like the golden olde told me to hunt, god bless you)
Pics to follow tomorrow, when I hit the office.

Good Night and may your God be with You,

Um, you need to look at grid patterns, etc.
Seriously, great find!!! Congratulations, I'd love to hit a nice heavy Plat ring!!:sadwalk:

Whooo Hoo, Get the alkaline battery pack for a back-up. It is the only thing I use on my Excal anymore. I had three of the Minelabs bats and they were all trash. Only lasted 3 months and would not take a charge again. Minelabs did exchange a couple which were no better.

What kind of rechargeable are you using and how it it's stamina?

I tend to work the sand patterns and eddy areas around rocks and turtle grass, the water's so clear here that you can follow the patterns usually. The mine that the East coast pirates talk about doesn't happen on my beach, probably because of the reef and the gulf stream. Everything I picked up tonight was in a pocket just like old Norm talked about on thegoldenolde site. Even the 26 cents I found yesterday was grouped by some turtle grass.
Gotta go with what works for these conditions.

HH All,

It depends on how long the Excal sits between hunts. I don't know if it's the salt, the humidity or the Bermuda Triangle that does it but batteries don't seem to last half as long here as they do back home. Even when I was using the ACE250 it ate batteries like they were candy.
I sure hope the standard battery pack that came with my Excal keeps on ticking. Maybe I'll order a back up just in case, but an alkaline pack would cost a fortune to run; especially here where a 4 pack of AA batteries is $10.

When I get home, the equipment gets a thorough washing. After silicone spraying the equipment gets hung up to dry in the garage overnight. The next morning, I go get the units and love on them. This is important to keep yer mojo on. Obviously my foreplay or somthings up, cause my mojo could use a little tweakin'. The units then come into the house and the Excal goes on charge before it gets hung up in the closet. That way she's ready fer the next surf battle. That same thing happened to me at the lake where I had been doing so well. Just forgot to charge her and she quit on me. It's never happened again though.

 Wow, $10 for a 4 pack is rough. The alkaline pack requires 8 and they only last about 8 hours. Yep, with those fees for batteries you are better off with the OEM pack. I had a hard time with them. Minelabs told me they should last about a year before going bad but I never got more than 3 months. I do believe that the very first one might have lasted 9 months but none after did. I gave up and went the alkaline route but here I get 36 AA's for $14. Anyway, you will pay for the batteries with the machine. Keep sucking the stuff off the bottom.

Here's the pics of last night's nut, plus the 26 cents from my aborted hunt the night before.

Good Luck to All Hunters,

Seems like just a couple months ago. How many platinum is that now, 2? I've not had 1 yet. That's awesome bda! You are definitely in the zone dude!

You cant do anything with out a charged battery. The water is still getting warmer here, my dad pulled up a ring this morning. It is junk, i think. It is very slightly magnetic.

The ring count so far is 1 platinum band, 1 platinum and 18k gold, 1 18k gold with 5 diamonds inlayed, 1 18k gold band, 1 14k gold ring with sapphire, 1 10k gold band and 1 silver ring - plus 1 silver bracelet. The best find has got to be the cannonball though.
I think I can get a few more rings and stuff out of my beach if a storm will come through and stir things up, hurricane season is fast approaching so who knows?

Yep, you guessed it. I read your post GH and since my wife was out shopping with a friend who is down to visit I decided what the heck I'll take the Excal for a quick spin. Well 3 hours later I am the proud owner of a 18k Tiffany & Co. band with the inscription "Viva Las Vegas" and a sterling silver ring with a crusader cross cut out.
Plus a couple of pop cans, tabs, lead pieces, fishing weights, copper screws, etc, etc.
So that brings the count up to 1 platinum band, 1 platinum and 18k gold, 1 18k gold with 5 diamonds inlayed, 1 18k gold band, 1 18k Tiffany & Co. band, 1 14k gold ring with sapphire, 1 10k gold band, 1 celtic silver ring and 1 silver ring with cross - plus 1 silver bracelet.
9 rings and a bracelet, plus the cannonball of course.
Pics to follow as usual.

:stretcher:I woke up this morning with a pinched nerve that gives me wicked vertigo when I turn my head too far - No more hunting for me till I get to the chiropractor.:nopity:
We've got a friend visiting from Canada and a bunch of us are headed out on a booze cruise around the island so I think I better just kick back and relax for a while.

Good Luck to All You Hunters Everywhere:thumbup:
