Forest Service Policy

I just posted a msg on the forum that everyone should read because the Forest Service is trying to enforce a policy of stopping anyone from nugget hunting or coin detecting on Public Ground, i.e. National Forests. I realize that this is a forum for learning the XS so I will just post the link and I suggest ya'all read it because it can defintely affect your right to detect. Ken,

I was under the assumption detecting is already off limits in National forest?

Sounds like "the sky is falling" to me. Even if they are tightening up on metal detecting on Federal property, there are still tons of places to metal detect. I think what we as metal detectorist need to be concerned with is trying to overcome our past reputations. We can do this by leaving the property we detect as we found it. Let's face it, most of the problems that we are facing today is a result of a few bad apples spoiling it for the rest of us by leaving unfilled holes and litter behind. It is still going on as I have discovered recently in places that I routinely detect. Some inconsiderate person left holes that I had to fill in, and trash that I had to carry off at an old school yard. Until we all get a handle on this problem we are going to continue to meet resistance in our hobby.
