THANK YOU Big Mike and GOLDDIGGER!
I met up with GOLDDIGGER and Mark from MO at Forest Park in St. Louis yesterday. Jim (Golddigger)...was kind enough to meet me there once before and took me on a tour of the place. He is a VERY knowledgeable and a blast to hunt with. I learned a LOT from him as he would call me over when he got a signal and let me check it. Forest Park is HUGE and has acres and acres....to literally MILES to hunt in. There is NO way it is or would ever be hunted out! I have personally been there 3 times and have come away with silver every time.
Golddigger, Mark, myself and my lady were getting ready to hunt when Mike Moutray showed up and took us to just one of the MANY spots at Forest Park to hunt at. Mike located some targets and had us run our machines over them to see how it sounded and how it looked on the screen as did goldigger.
It was a wonderful learning experience and a load of fun. I can't wait for the Seminar and hunt in September..cause' I'll be there! Mike is an expert and knows the area and history like the back of his hand. Between him and golddigger....you can obtain a wealth of information and tips that will last a lifetime.
I found my first ever seated half dime-1841...three indian heads (lost one in the excitement of showing golddigger my half dime)...some wheaties...a bullet....two mercs...and a GOLD man's ring that says DAD on it. My lady found some relics and some clad coins. She found a little bell and what looks to be a stirrup?...and an old lock.
A few weeks ago I posted the nicest barber dime I ever found. I have been responding to a lot of posts on the forum that have found a seated coin..and always state that I haven't found one for a while. Well that's no longer the case. When this little sweetie popped out of the ground I wasn't even sure what I had found! I got excited and starting walking over to golddiger knowing I found silver...but it was so tiny I thought it was cut in half or something. I put it in Jim's hand and he rubbed the dirt off and said "you found a half dime". He then proceeded to call me a bad name...joking of course...and THAT'S when I really knew I had made a very nice find.
Heck I've never even seen one before and had no idea on earth that I would actually find one someday. It is so tiny and thin and you really don't realize just how much smaller and thinner they are compared to a seated dime...until you have them next to each other.
I can honestly say that it was the best day hunting and the most fun I have ever had doing so. Having two experts like Mike Moutray and Golddigger (Jim) giving tips...pointers...site locations...etc...just made it a great day. My first seated half dime EVER...just put the icing on the cake. The nice gold man's ring didn't make matters any worse either!
SERIOUSLY...don't think for one second that Forest Park is hunted out!
I would have NEVER had the opportunity to even THINK about finding a coin like this if it wasn't for Mike and Jim (Golddigger)...knowing the area. THANK YOU BOTH!
