Foreign coins

virginia

New member
Found these today. Don't really know if they are the real thing or maybe
fakes. Could anyone help identify. Found with my EXPll today.

Yes Virginia, those are Chinese coins of the Qing (or Ching) Dynasty!

The important characters are the one at the top & the bottom and they are minted & in circulation during the reign of that emperor & not after they are dead!

The one on the left is Ch'ien Lung (1736-1795 a.d.)
The one on the right is Chia Ch'ing (1796-1820 a.d.)

Can't tell you the values but since so many were made, they aren't rare in China but are great finds in the US.

I agree these are not rare here in the USA, I believe they were used on jewelry and a few other items that were sold here in the USA. Someone told me he seen a jacket that had these sew on.
I understand they were made for that Dynasty of that Emperor and when they died a new one was made and the old ones worthless so they were used for other items.
These are always great finds as they are a piece of history.
