For you guys who keep large coin talleys! A question...

What is your ratio of numbers of clad coins to silver coins? Please state if you are including nickles and pennys in the clad count or not.

At the end of each season I figure out my silver to wheat ratio, which the last couple of years has been around 5 wheats to 1 silver. I try to hunt areas that do not produce much clad but normally it is around $100 in clad for the season.

The number of silvers to clad can vary significantly from person to person. It depends on the different places they prefer to hunt. In the club I'm in, there are a few people that hunt parks, tot lots, and some yards. These guys bring in several hundred clad (including nickels and pennies) coins per month, with normally less than 5-6 silvers. On the other hand, there are guys that don't care about clad, and hunt locations with much less modern day activity and they may bring in 50-70 clad per month, but may have 10-15 silver. Like Firefighter43, I usually try to get a rough average of silver to old pennies (wheaties & Indians). This can vary also, but I think the last I checked for me it was around 7-8 old pennies per silver.

I have been averaging about 3 to 1 wheat's and Indians to silver not many wheat's where i hunt and hardly any clad left.don't find all that many coins but the ones i do are pretty good coins.

That is an excellent wheat:silver ratio! I'm like 10:1.

I have not kept track of the ratio to clad, but at the site I am now hunting I have found one silver coin for every three hours of hunting. I have hunted 30 hours and found 10 silver coins.
