hello all. i'm just returning from a 45 day absence due to my work. i did manage to squeeze a few hunts in with olddigger, but didn't have the time to post 'em up. i thought this would be a good opportunity to catch up. as you can see, i've dug up a good bit. i'm not sure what type of musical reeds they are, maybe a harmonium? they were all found together at the base of a large oak tree. several sharps and three ringers, underwear buttons, a nice silver ring, a thick buckle, saddle pieces, perc caps, partial buttons, flat buttons, a huge floral/octagonal button, an 1862 [?!] fattie cent, a couple of j hooks, and many rivets. there's even part of a bayonet scabbard tip in there. the williams cleaner is carved on two sides. as always, we found lots of whatzits too.

we slogged through the mud yesterday, but still had a good time. thanks for looking and reading, and hh!

Congrats on some great finds I have found those same musical reeds but they were not in as good of shape.

Nice bunch of relics. Glad you're back home and hope we can get out Wenesday. I need to catch up, you whoop my butt yesterday. Frank

So thats what those things are...musical reeds!! I've been finding a lot of them and wondering, what the heck are these things. Thanks for posting this. It finally solved one of my mystery relics. Maybe I should post the other mystery relics on here to find out what they are. Yea I'll do that sometime this week. Thanks.

Aren't the reeds out of what was called a Squeeze Box? ..... the scrapped down version of an accordian?

hi soark. some people seem to think they are harmonium reeds or even squeezebox reeds. i noticed not so long ago there was a friendly debate as to what exactly these were on another forum. i don't think anyone came up with a good answer. they all have the letters a through g on them, being musical notes, i suppose for tuning or replacement purposes. olddigger also found a few of them, but his are much larger than mine. so, it's still up in the air as to what they really are! thanks, and hh!
