You can hand me any detector old or new, cheap model or expensive and I will find coins.
Buy a detector use it for several months get about 100 hours on it and you'll find what you thought was a not so wonderful detector,
maybe a hot number to hang on to. You can't really make a expert decision unless you give the unit a good try out.
I have a Fisher Edge that I wasn't too impressed with at first, after reading posts that many have a hard time with it they sell them fast.
Kept on using it, every time out with it started to like it more and more. Was not used to multi tones and the Id was not so good with modern Canadian clad.
After much trial and error, it turns out it's a very nice unit and does very well with our
clad. It's a toss up sometimes whether to use the Eldorado or the Edge.
Depth wise they are on par, which makes the choice a bit harder. The Eldo comes out when I don't want to listen to multitones. The Edge makes a good cherry picking machine looking for Loons and Toons. I have now learned both machines and have taken what I learned from the Edge and applied it to my Tesoro for coins on edge.
So I suggest buying a detector and learning how to use it completely at least for a summer, before deciding on a new detector. What I have done in the past before selling a detector I knew how to use well for something everyone raves is a new better unit. I would buy the newer unit use it for several months. Then if I felt it was a better unit would sell my older unit. Or keep it as a back up. The grass is not always greener on the other side.
As a added note, it might take you some time before you settle into one unit. Something about some detectors you will find not appealing. No matter how much better the unit might be, you'll hate using it. I had a MXT and couldn't stand the tones, the pitch I found irritating, besides being a noisey detector. Almost wrapped it around a tree. But, will say it was a great unit overall. Just didn't appeal to me, liked the Cortes better.
