For the people that don't dig everything what signals do you look for before you dig?

I'm trying to come up with good hunting strategies.

I tend to dig everything that's over 40 but when a signal jumps around violently I don't dig those.

What does everyone else dig?

I hunt for gold and silver so anything from foil on up gets a look see. I go by sound to determine whethe to dig or not.I use Pro-Mode 0 descrim.

When I'm in a place that I want to dig up only a little, I'll do the same thing. Will also shut off the iron audio if there is a lot of junk, then turn it back on when I find a signal I like. This helps avoid bottlecaps and keeps the noise down a bit. The atp is great to listen to, but it can be a bit much at times.

John's chart is accurate, but you wanna get away from the screen, and go by sound first...If the sound is solid and repeatable, I THEN look at my screen and determine if I want to dig...Usually all good sounding Medium and High Tones get dug...Not much for relics in my area, so Low tones get ignored...

HH,

I use the sound first--- in pro mode, iron disc at 30,iron audio off. Listen carefully to start and end of signal, check it from 2 directions. if smoothe and not scratchy or stuttery, look at digital #. Raise coil 10 inches sweep it, if you still hear it, it's Large, Seems kind of time consumeing but isn't because reduces needless diging--( this is for coin and jewelry hunting -not for relics). PS-- many gold chains register 38 to about 51 very many other detectors can't see them, but the ATP can.

Listen to the tone first. If soild look at tid, if the numbers bounce more than 3-4 numbers it is probably trash. This detector is like my old DFX in that you listen first and watch for narrow tid numbers. Gold and silver tid numbers rarely move more than 3-4 numbers, sometimes even less. Good hunting.to all

I'm pretty new to my AT Pro as well and have noticed a lot of these nuances. I'm having to train myself not to dig every single signal that I hear but to go for solid repeatable tones.
My biggest fault now is digging a lot of trash because I still dig the signals that jump around a lot.
I'm using the stock coil and perhaps should invest in the smaller 5 X 8 sniper.
