I made it out yesterday and hunted a hay field that has yielded silver before. I ended up with 7 wheats, a couple of clad dimes and an 1894 Indian head cent. I am first and foremost a tone hunter. I do look at the ID numbers once in a while. Yesterday if I wasn't digging 18-21,I would have missed the Indian and half of the wheat cents. Now hunting a hay field is a bit tough as it was pretty thick in there. My point I am trying to make is don't get hung up on the numbers!! If you have to dig a zincoln once in a while dig it! You want to have those old coins in your pouch. Not someone else! Good luck and HH! Ted

Exactly. This is why I hunt in 50 tones. Those tones are extremely telling if one takes the time to listen.
 
The reason why I too love the Equinox 600. I found this 1936 Buffalo nickel and 1946 Jefferson together in the same hole!

I tried 50 tones today..Can't say that I like it or not. I changed from Park 1 to Field 2 and it wasn't too bad. I had a 4 silver day...A rosey, two mercs,and a Washington quarter, a V nickle,a couple of Jeffersons,some wheats and I think a couple of more Indians. Maybe I will post some pics after they are rinsed off. My old butt is draggin!!

I barely ever look at the ID when detecting I’m always listening for those hard to hear deep ones that a lot of times turn up silver for me got about 50 so far for this year I have to be doing it right!
Whatever works for you I say .,

As a beach hunter I regularly find gold rings throughout the range of VID #3-24, including nice gold rings in my pull tab range (14-16) and push tab range (16-17) in Beach 2. Many rings fall in the 11-13 range where my nickels reside (12-13). I get particularly excited when I hit a 11 or 12, as this seems to be the mode for gold rings. In general, the heavier the gold ring the higher the VID number; very light (eg 1g) rings will fall around 5-9 and heavier gold rings 12-16 or higher. Silver rings seem to start around #16 or 17 to high 20s. But there are always exceptions. fyi

ok... what are your thoughts on the Equinox... if you could or had to notch out ONE #...14 or 16?I am getting a head spinning amount of 14s... when you find gold is the signal as rapid as a pull tab? I founf my 5th ring of the year..2 have been silver.. the last junk ring I found came in with a rapid repeatable 19.... with the gold rings is it a fast rapid and is the # locked in or bouncing around?
