For the Camera bugs out there I bought a Olympus 720 today and I am trying to get a good Macro shot on a coin so the date will come out

It has a super Macro but the Super won't Zoom. When I use the Zoom on the Macro it just gets bleary. I know I got to be doing something wrong. It is a 7.1 MP. Something that cost this much sould be able to take a picture of a coin up close. Read the book 4 times and it don't say anything about Taking Macro pictures. Thanks Jerry aka Tinfoil.

Hi Jerry, don't know about your model, hell I don't know about digital cameras of any kind but there is a good website that I study all that stuff on in case I ever decide to get one, it's dpreview.com. Its got forums, camera reviews, plus prices and features, etc on dig, cameras.

I could help you but the Stylus 720 SW you have seems only able to take under water Macro picture. I don

On the Stylus 720 in regular Macro Mode the minimum close-focusing distance varies depending on zoom position. So, focusing at minimum zoom and than trying to zoom in closer won't work. This is not unusual.

In the Super Macro mode you can focus as close as about 3 inches. You can't zoom in that mode but 3 inches should be plenty close enough for a coin anyway. Move the camera instead of zooming if you have to.

The flash probably won't work correctly at that close range so use natural light instead as from a window.

...that you have to keep the camera absolutely STILL. When I take mine I do it in bright light...our bathroom is well lit...and I usually use a gray mouse pad as a backdrop, though you can experiment with that and get good results with a variety of backdrops. You want one that gives good contrast, is low gloss, and lets the subject stand out. I turn the flash off, which makes for less glare and more natural color. I put the camera in macro mode and use a small tripod to keep it from moving. You can get one cheap at Target or Walmart. I find it nearly impossible to take clear pictures without the tripod. With it, the result is some nice crisp clear pictures. Here are a few examples. My camera is a 7.1 MP Canon A620. I'm sure yours is at least as capable.

Hope that helps.
