In one of the videos des dunnes,(think that is his name) recommeds not having the Fast on with Deep on. Says something to the effect that it confuses the filters having both on at the same time. Question is, in the manual under Relic Mode both are on. Any thoughts as to why he says that in the video when in fact they are both on on the preset Relic mode.. thanks in advance..Sonny.. waiting on the NEW E-trac coming out SOOOON... ha-hope

Got a new E-trac coming ? :drinking:

I thought I read something about that. It may be the same thing but I know for sure what I read was about the Explorer SE and not the E-Trac. You might want to check that. Jim

I saw that in one of the older videos. Not sure which Explorer Des was using then. He didn't know why anyone would want to turn fast and deep at the same time.He was vague about why he wouldn't do it.

These two options caused a lot of confusion on the Explorer's with them both being on the same screen and this has carried over to the E-Trac. On both models, they are two separate circuits that process signals differently and have specific advantages in specific conditions.

RECOVERY DEEP enhances the response from very small or deep targets. This is NOT doing what Gain does however and is independent of the Gain setting. The factory preset values in the 4 predefined modes on the E-Trac are:

- COINS = OFF
- HIGH TRASH = OFF
- BEACH = ON
- RELIC = ON

Many coin hunters have found that ON is the preferable setting when looking for older, deeper coins.

RECOVERY FAST reduces the shutdown time or the time required for the circuitry to finish processing one signal and be ready to start on the next one. One would think that this option should then always be on since it reduces the shutdown time but the trade off is that there is a loss of target ID accuracy, especially on deeper targets so if you are not in a trashy location, OFF will produce more sonsistent target ID values. The factory preset values in the 4 predefined modes on the E-Trac are:

- COINS = OFF
- HIGH TRASH = ON
- BEACH = OFF
- RELIC = ON

These choices make more sense than the preset RECOVERY DEEP options do but in either case, understanding what they do and then setting them according to what the site you are hunting contains (deeper targets, high concentration of trash, small targets, coins on edge, etc.) will allow you to choose what works at that specific site.

But as far as not being able to have both ON at the same time . . . . . .. they work fine together and from personal experience, the results bear that out.

Hope this helps

Andy

There was a thread on the Explorer forum about the same topic a few weeks back. Based on what the manual states regarding each option it seemed to make the most sense to me that both settings were controlled by different circuits and that there was no conflict, though I remember a Minelab rep (maybe it was Des) saying that these two options conflicted and would cause the machine to become unstable. Thank you for finally putting this "legend" to rest!
