Foot Deep Civil War relics with the CTX

I took off work a little early to hunt a well-pounded Union campsite in the 29-degree weather and 18-degree wind chill. I decided to use the 17-incher to hit the same ground I have swept over the past 5 years with my 11-inch coil. I wanted to see if I missed any deep targets mixed in with the iron. I ended up finding a handful or so of bullets, many of which were a foot deep or more!

I was running manual sensitivity at 26, which is about as high as I can stand at this site without endless chatter. I used deep on, fast off, gain cranked up to hear the deep stuff. On the deepest find, a 14" .69 Minie ball, it was barely registering on the visual ID, but had a repeatable 2-way audio tone. I was frozen afterward, but felt accomplished.

Nice saves...

I like your video...I recognize the sound of cold in your voice. :)

Hardcore hunting!

Thanks guys! Yeah, it was chilly. Had long johns on but the icy wind blew straight through to my bones.

Don - I had the gain on 28. There is moderate iron in parts of this site, so it can be annoying some times to have it that high. But worth it to hear the deep bullets.

I have an unproven theory but I tend to think that targets in cold soil hit better for me. I know this is true with wet ground and it may be cold and wet go together but I learned with the E trac some years ago to go over my older best sites in the cold days when i could still dig.
With the 3030 In cold I get great results as well. Maybe its the way the ground is more chunky with dirt that cracks instead of squishes. IDK...but I can tell you It hasnt failed me yet.
