"FOOL'S GOLD" - 2008 movie plug!

Hey guys.

I forgot about this movie! I worked on Fools Gold last year when I was in Visual Effects.
Saw the trailer online today - not sure if it's been released in the USA yet.
Some of the shots were done here on the Great Barrier Reef. I was given some
shots to retouch, skies to add and a few minor details to work on. I requested to
be allocated to this project since I collect Spanish Doubloons & Silver (pre 1800's)
and had not entered the world of Detecting at the time I was working on the film.
I just fired an email to IMDB to remind them to list me for the online credits.

My wife watched the trailer tonight, then rolled her eyes and said "Oh my GOD that idiot reminds me of YOU!"
We've been researching treasure here since 2000 on preparation for an island hunt in the Pacific
soon (I've been after a buried treasure there from the 1700's since finding out about it in the 1980s).
I got into prospecting when accidentally late last year I walked into my local Prospector supplier's
store to take a look at the Minelab Excalibur for underwater work.

If anyone sees the film, let me know if you enjoyed it. It's probably just light fluff and I didn't get to see any of
the completed film until the trailer surfaced: http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/foolsgold/

I can see some technical flaws already in that the Doubloons
are all cast from the same molds (note the bottom cut is identical on each coin). Looks like a
fun movie though and the new trailer made me smile.

Cheers!

I'm a sucker for treasure movies and Kate Hudson is cute so it's a no brainer way to get out of the cold for a couple of hours. HH. Bob.

I saw the add on TV a couple of nights back. I will take a look at the credits, when I getto see it.

Don't look too closely, not everyone gets a credit (contrary to popular belief). Movies like '300' & 'Stealth' saw most of my crews getting thanked via advertisements in major industry magazine rather than on the film credits. The way it works is that the company doing the effects etc negotiated to do the job based on a specific budget and are allocated ten credits or so. Most of those credits are given to senior staff like producers etc who may have contributed nothing to the film. Then, when they end up using say 20 staff to do the job, they can only allocate enough credits for their original agreement. Some of the people doing the work don't get a credit. You'd think it would be easy to tack on a few names but it isn't. I didn't get a credit for '300' yet they used my art and design work for the Art Of 300 book. They didn't credit one of my fellow artist who broke his back for that film and he left in disgust.

I had a crew of 16 working with me on a television series called 'Farscape' for about 3 years. We were only given 4 names in the credits per episode so we took turns getting a credit every fourth episode or so. Nature of the industry I'm afraid. Was not terribly impressed to see Supervisors handing my work to the Studio clients and claiming it as their own. I'd rather deal with the snakes in the bush because you can see them coming. Although I did come terribly close to stomping on a couple in my time in the studios. I have no doubt I'll bump into them again too.

With the number of credits already there, I had assumed that everybody was included. I guess there needs to be some editing. Sadly it sounds like the wrong people get the credit. I haven't seen 300, but have seen Stealth and a few episodes of Farscape. Sounds like you have a work situation in which you can get a lot of satisfaction out of. That's something that is pretty special, despite the lack of recognition. A friend of my brother in-law works as a technical producer with the ABC. He has a few funny tales to tell on some of the shows he works on.
