[size=medium]Hi Folks,

I have been on a dry spell for about a week or more.
been trying to find some relics. Well, I got tired of tha
heavy diggen and all. This morning I decided to use
tha huge data base in my TomTom GPS to try and find
a park that I haven

I wish I lived near you Tabdog and I would love to go on a hunt or two with you. Great on the gold ring. What metal detector were you using? How was the weather?

Congrats on the gold ring Tabdog!! That is a nice one! I also like the copper ring! Very unusal, I would say from one of those crafty type stores, Beale.

The dog smells out the goodies again. Good going Tabdog. Bill in Texas

I'm really using tha V a lot lately. It gets great depth on gold.

That small gold ring disk out at foil, or just bairly above it.

But, tha signal was sharp and strong.

I laid it on tha ground and could raise my 5.75" concentric
coil about 10" and still get a diggable response.

Now that's impressive.

Happy Huntin,

Looks good there TD  - looks like if ya zoom the GPS in more, then more details will be revealed and parks will show in green usually with the name. Or use the POI feature. Like I mentioned in an earlier reply to GPS, if ya don't make it some of the parks, I'll sometimes check it out using on line mapping that has aerial 3-D view to see things like tree lines, playgrounds, creeks etc. Then you can save your favorite locations with routes on the GPS. The hand held units can be nice to actually plot routes when off the beaten path - so when it gets dark or next time you want to take the same route - can be handy off the path.

Hay Tab,

I don a bunch a stuff on tha net with findin parks and stuff.

I googeled parks and all that stuff.

But tha data base in my TomTom has more parks than I can find on tha net.

It's one thing to do it on maps, and another to run it down outside.

With tha Tabdog mental database coupled with tha TomTom data base, it's just somethin new.

I got a hand held for walkin also. The TomTom is not so good off tha road.

Got them both used off eBay.

Hey Tab Stop finding all the good stuff, you make us all look like a bunch of twits.
The Black ring you have found looks like a
Polished iron ore ring. I bought one in Ozz, not sure were it would disc out at,if it is iron ore its not worth much,(Broke Mine)

[size=medium]A couple of folks suggested tungsten.

I don't know much about tungsten carbide or tungsten alloys.

I did find a name brand $600 tungsten wedding band one time.

It's a TrueTungsten Wedding Band.

The store that sold it could not find the owner. They told me

that it's the hardest metal known. They said I could scrape it

on concrete or use a file on it and it would not scratch.

I tried both and there is not a single scratch on tha ring.

Then,,,,,,,,,,,,

I got to wonderin about tha black ring, so I used some fine

sand paper on it.

That revealed the copper underneath tha black.

I sanded one side.

So, new mysteries arise.

How did it get black?

EZ, TD...

Copper jewelry makes skin turn green... Not good.
Yet copper is easy to work with.

Solution?

Enamel or powder coat the work done in copper.

Pretty!

and no greenie fingers.

If the Tabdog likes the shiny copper color... give it couple coats of clear fingernail polish.

Best

Black? I think it is a copper, iron ,sulfur reaction..Had the same thing on a lot of black crud I panned out of a stream..Non magnetic, had weight..A young PhD said that's gold.. A gold ,iron ,sulphur reaction, and dumped some acid on the stuff...The magic mellow yellow color appeared right now...Went back and the ground was posted..Company out of business..Am going to detour when I take Mrs out for dinner today...I don't know if that is the right answer to being black, but where gold was once, it may still be.
