To tell everyone how hard the site had been hunted is an understatement!!! I don't think I've ever hunted a known location that had been beat to death as the one I was at. My goals immediately sunk after the first half hour of zilch....zilch in one of the main camps. Hmmmm Have to re-think my posititon here and rely on my knowledge of these sites.

One thing I never tire of is the mountians and beautiful sunsets! Taken after our hike in the hills.
Well, my sail was pretty well deflated when Duane found the gold dollar. I think, at that point I found a small eagle cuff, a mini ball and two pewter trouser buttons. Nothing else...and we were at it for hours. Go hours without a positive signal telling you to dig and one will begin to understand. For me it was like hunting for gold...natural gold. Anyhow...not to bore you all.....I did manage to find a few things over the two weeks and averaged about 4 hours of detecting a day. I also found a lifetime goal too!!! Though not in the best of condition...it is priceless to me! More about that later.

Finally, a coin! This was found towards the end of my stay and a total bonus for me. My expecatations were at that poing were to come home with no coins. Here it was fresh out of the dirt.

I waited to wash the front after we were done for the day and to Duane's suprise, the date was 1856. He said to his knowledge it was the first dime of that date to have been found on the site! Seeing his records of the site, I did real good there! Scored a few firsts and a one rare!

I only have found one tear drop pistol bullet in all of my relic hunting over the years. Managed to find a spot where there were four drops in a small area. The fired tear drop was fired in a colt revolver, and makes my set of that particular bullet finally complete in my collection. I collect fired and drops.... one of each kind for my display.

Now for my find of a life time....Don't laugh, it is what it is. I managed a melted Department of the Interior bridal or blinder rosette. Rare as hens teeth!!!! It is a little bent, was melted years ago as it was a good 7 inches deep and much of the melted out lead was also in the hole. I was very happy, but am not sure I am going to straighten it out. I think I like it the way it is. Adds a little character. What do you all think. BTW..that was the fourth one recovered on the site that has been documented. For comparison, Duane loaned me one of his for a side by side. They were attached by four small attachment wires.
My time was about over and had to prepare myself to go back home and work for a living. Now that I am home, I have not had a moment to do anything as it has been constant work and more of the same. I am ready for another break!! But, the good lord was willing and I managed one final relic that is indeed a first on the site!!! A perfect company letter "M." I am told that that is perhaps the hardest one to find for the complete set of company letters and mine is absoultly perfect!!!

There were a few more recoveries of percussion caps, round balls a mini ball, two sharps ringtails and a pretty cool fish hook, but for me to find a couple of my goals...and a new friend, I could not ask for a better hunt!
Thanks for viewing,
John
