55 people were given the priviledge of the floor. The first speaker was about a free clinic. The second speaker was there for vistors and coventions. You know how that went. Then some scruffy looking guy that metal detects gave his presentation. When the Eastern Shawnee take posession of the land it will be a land of a soveriegn nation and not subject to the laws and taxes of the United States. Many veterans fought for this country to keep it free. Would they really appreciate it. If you Mr. Mayor and members of the council who support the casino are willing to give away our land would you be willing to give your own properties to the tribe. I would also like to ask if the casino wil increase property values? Will they stay the same, then why bother. If they would decrease then let's not do it. Do you really think that A Honda, GM, GE or any other large manufacturer would even consider coming here with that temptation here? Many companies are now asking for financial statemnts to eliminate gambling and other financial problems.
Some of the people really did their homework and just fried the idea of a casino. Some gave gospel reasons. I was amazed that no one lost their cool. It was a an event that was in the LORD's hands.
Then came the vote 5-4 in favor of continuing negotiations with the tribe. That's a legal and binding agreement that can be used by the tribe in federal court to gain the land to build the casino.
My heart sunk but I had asked the LORD for his will in this matter. On the way out I stopped to talk to some friends and the Sheriff was there who had called for the Christians of the community to gather to speak against the casino. He said we had 20 days to get 770 signatures to reverse their vote. Yippeeeee! Praise God it's not the done deal after all.
May God bless you all for your prayers.
If I can get a video tape I will give some of the things people had found out. For the Michigan people it's a mind blower.
