Went out for a search in a school yard yesterday. This was an old HS foot ball field.Jack at the museum Saturday gave me information where the old bleachers were located so Sunday checked the grounds for old coins. The area didn't produce, only clad in the sixties, but on the way out got a 150-151 on the meter.About 6 inches down retrieved a 1945 P War Nickle another sweep with the S-1 got a 1943 P two war nickles in one hole. Also Saturday,I asked Jack where Brace Beemer's(original Lone Ranger) house was in Oxford,I thought this would make a great hunt and post.He did give me information where the old farm house is located. They sell these Lone Ranger"s mask at the museum so Jack said had an idea on a photo,LOL, put the mask on and he got the Lone Ranger's hat out of the display case and said Ron put this on,it gets worse I'm standing there Jack and Jerry taking photos and this group of people come in to visit the museum.LOL I told the visitors we had to compete with the stuff animal store next door they have a guy walking up and down the street in a monkey suit.HH Ron

I wonder how many of those war nickles I've missed due to them reading higher some times? I've dug 4 or 5 over the last two years and they read 143 to 146 like a regular nickle, but as I think you said they can read higher if they've had certain things leach out of them in the ground. Or, maybe it's that they read lower after stuff leaches out of them in the ground? I would think having silver in them at first they'd read higher, but as time goes on they can read lower for some odd reason?

HA! Looks like a couple of crazy Dudes. Ron, how did the tone sound on the war nickles? Did it sound higher than a regular nickle? Lower than a silver I'm guessing? I haven't dug one with my Sov.
Good luck Gary

Critter,a 150 is probably very close to all the War nickles I've found in my area. These nickle do have a silver content so they should read higher.By the way Midwest Refinery won't take War nickles for silver value. Thanks Ron

Gary, the tone on al the War nickles I have found are higher and smooth, like a nice gold ring. Thanks Ron.

YOur having a good time while you hunt Ron, thats the way to do it:thumbup:
