Happy Easter all.

Well my Friday started off at 7:30am in the local park play ground area, found several clad coins & lots of trash. I got talking to the park keeper and showed my good, bad and ugly finds; well I really expected some kind of reprimand, but instead he thanked me for cleaning up the bits of metal, old batteries, wire and other nasty items that children seen to dig up:thumbup:. He said I could dig pretty much anywhere as long as the hole were fill, I said no problem.
I spent about 2hrs in that area and then wouldn't you know it my batteries were dying out! Ya I know I usually have spares on me, but I was near a store, so off I go.... still pondering my next spot.
I got a phone call from work (on call 24/7), I was told I could go Sat. cause it was Good Friday, but I choose to get the job done:help:. Well I'm glad I did!
Driving about an hr. out to Oil Rig, it began snowing, heavier & heavier, soon to finish my thoughts of T'Hunting. I went to Rig switch out a TV, the Geologist was happy & I was happy, cause the snow stopped:super:
Well as I was driving through an native Indian reserve I was thing about an old closed down school and area, with a nice lake in the background.
Now this is where things really get into bonus mode:jump:
I seen an elderly native gentleman, so I pulled up and asked for permission to detect in the old school, he said oh yes no problem go ahead. Then his tone changed to vary serious and he asked if I would be interested in finding two large containers of old coins that were buried by an elderly man back in the early 1800's.:surprised::yikes::hot:
Of course I said yes! He than told me several people over the years tried to find this cash, to no avail. He said the land has been in his family for many generations and the 2 house have been long abandoned, with the cash buried some behind the house. He gave only very general locations and he said they figured the cash is buried between 12in. - 2ft.

Well this guys story sounded legit to me, I guess my next question is to plan of search. Because of my lack of knowledge of the area and obvious lack of GTI 2500 experience, I'm going to search the area of the houses first and get the layout of the terrain. I will probably wait till next year/spring/summer and go in with the tresureHound EagleEye.

Well that was how I spent my holiday off.:detecting:
Any comments on this or advise welcome.:help::detecting:

Here's a pic of my finds on Good Friday. Dave

Very nice haul. From the loks of it there is probably nore. People usually buried their stash close to the house where they could keep an eye on it and usually in view of a bedroom window. Now if there are or were any out buildings it could be buried in or under them or in an old cellar if one existed. People never buried their stash out of sight.

Thanks Uncle Willy, since I started reading on this forum, I've gleaned a lot of info and still learning lots.
Some of these items came out of the old school on the reserve and I've only just begun to search this large area!
I'm waiting patiently for my GTI 2500 to really begin searching, as the ACE 100 will only do so much.
I figure 12.5 imaging coil on the 2500 should work nicely in this area and also the two old homes .
The two old homes are about 25-30 mile from the school, I know that area is old and has a lot of forest and swamp, so I'm hoping that it's still detectable.

If I could ask your advice about what coils you would use around the old homes and back area where the 2 jars full of 1800's coins are? Could be thick grass and shrub bushes! Dave

I would use the big coil for the stash as you don't know how deep it may be. Most stashes are at least a foot or more. If you have a lot of tall grass and brush in the way you may have to rent a weed whacker and clear the area you want to hunt. Trying to hunt in this stuff is a real bummer.

Well I got my GTI 2500, now the learning begins:super:
I got a call to go out to rig site today, which passes by the Indian Reserve school, but unfortunately it was raining and snowing:ranting:

I figure I'm in the area(15-20 miles)away from where the native fellow said the two homes were, so off I went down the mud soaked winding road to the area he said it would be and found an old dirt road leading into the woods.:jump::clap:
The road was to muddy, with many deep holes, so I walked in and there they were 2 very old log cabins. The first cabin about 10ft. x15ft had two easily accessible outhouses and was situated about 100-150ft. from a very large lake swamp to the right. The other cabin( about 15ft x15ft. looked even older and collapsing on 1 side.

The 1st cabin area has trees sparsed around it with tall grass and many tree branch randomly fallen all around. (for now the grass is dead because of harsh winters we get up here in Northern Alberta)

The 2nd cabin area has a small grassy Field about 500ft x 100ft with a few small shrubs growing up, but will allow an easy search. I would guess the age of these cabins at least 100 - 150 years could be more by the look of deterioration of the 2 cabins.

The search for cache in the wooded area will be a little more challenge, but if the TreasureHound EagleEye can detect 1- 2ft. above the ground, than this will be nice detecting for a wooded area:yo::hot:
Well thats all for now, looks like this legend may be true:thumbup::detecting: Dave
