Folding Garrett metal detectors... I made it happen! 27.5" long when folded!

I have modified my AT Pro and my Ace 350 md's which allows them to fold in seconds to a length of 27.5" !

The mod looks like it came from the factory and should work on any AT or Ace model. I am looking now at what other brands & models it will work with.

I can now fit my detector in a 30" case or slingbag, backpack, etc... Much easier to transport especially in a small vehicle or motorcycle.

Would anyone be interested in this mod if I made a kit available with the components, hardware and instructions?

If so, what would be a reasonable price? Keep in mind I have to make a profit.

Sorry that I can't post photos at this point, I am looking to patent the modification. Photos and/or a video will be available before I start selling the kits.

I would certainly appreciate opinions & questions.

Thanks & keep diggin!

Hope there are no steel parts that will rust. All stainless steel or plastic...
Folding and still retain the length adjustable option.
Looking forward to photos and more info.
Thanks

I'm glad you asked...

Two stainless steel screws will be included with the kit but you have the option to use an epoxy instead of the screws (epoxy not included in kit)

The remaining parts are plastic with the exception of the axle of the pivot joint. I will check to make sure but I believe it is not stainless.

Length is still adjustable but the minimum usable length has increased due to the folding mechanism location. The minimum usable length with the folding mechanism in place is approx 50" oal. Not a problem for me because I typically have mine adjusted to about 54". You could shorten one or both shafts to reach the desired length if 50" is too long. This would also make the detector even more compact.

It can easily be changed back to factory specs by swapping out the upper shaft. Upper shafts sell for about $15 with the cam locks.

Thanks and keep diggin!
