foil vs small gold?

I have had the explorer now enough to find plenty of old coins like pennies, and silver and nickles. I need to find GOLD jewlery or coins. Large items may not be a problem but small stuff I gather hits low like foil or tabs. Is there a way to determine a diff. between the two by using the digital mode. Foil is usually 1 or 2 on the digital screen if it ain't all balled up too big. Will a ring be different than foil in digital? I always use smart screen first then switch to digital to better analize the target. I have no clue what a small ring may read in digital.

Thin gold rings, like engagement rings, will fall in the low foil. something like a larger mens wedding band will come up more in the nickle range. gold rings can actually come anywhere from the lowest foil to penny. depending how you have your machine set up if it is a small, thin deep ring it may only be a very small signal and you must be going slow to get it.
